Jaag Utha Insan - 1984

Jaag Utha Insan is a love story between a Harijan boy and a Brahmin Girl, played by Mithun Chakraborty and Sridevi respectively in the lead role, well supported by Rakesh Roshan, Sujit Kumar and Deven Verma. The idea was not accepted well by the viewers because of the caste factor, in spite of good acting by the main star cast and semi-classical music. In the film, Mithun Chakraborty gets married to Sridevi with much pomp and show.

But the marriage goes sour within a few months. Sridevi perpetrates unspeakable cruelty on Mithunda. Mithunda in consequence seeks divorce straight from the Supreme Court of India on the grounds of cruelty, which is granted to him immediately. Mithunda, being too busy thrashing the goons to earn any real money, is not able to maintain himself and hence files a petition for allowance of maintenance . Sridevi contests the claim.

The film revolves around the issue as to how Mithunda fights his case and whether he gets maintenance or not.
